I cried a little when I saw this on tv earlier and I wanted to share it with people, I guess. My parents are both Queenslanders originally, so I have family all over the state, including cousins in Ipswich, Brisbane, and Toowoomba. I'm grateful that they are alive and well even if it seems like their lives have been totally turned upside down.

There are people who have lost literally everything and it amazes me to see the humour and generosity that still prevails, even in the midst of the devastation. Every time I see a picture of somebody saving a kangaroo from the water I cry. This is the part of my country of which I can most consistently be proud, even if I spend all my time criticising it about absolutely everything else. When everything goes to shit, we really look after each other.

Queensland will endure, because Queensland always does. This site is open for donations if anybody would like to help. I think when all this is over I'm going to go out and buy my cousin's kids a shitload of toys.

We went through that as well over a year ago here in Manila. Its a devastating experience but something that your country can get through I'm sure. Good to hear that your relatives are ok :)

The idea of the animals are so upsetting :( A lot of the evacuation centres weren't taking pets so the RSPCA got inundated with calls from people offering to take them. Thanks for thinking of me <3

I guess that, if there's one good aspect about terrible tragedies such as this one, is how generosity does tend to prevail. I do the criticising thing with my country in much the same way that you do to yours, but here too, i can't deny that people have been awesome with the way they look after each other.
Am still glad to hear that you and your family are all well. Will keep you all in my thoughts ♥

Sam and I were looking at this pic of a guy with a boatful of kangaroos and sam said something along the lines of, "That's really touching but you know moments after this pic was taken one of those kangaroos slashed his throat". People are taking their lives in their hands saving kangaroos alskfdgjlkj

:( I go to uni in Queensland, and just watching all the footage, including my uni flooding, is just so surreal. It's so depressing seeing everyone lose so much.

I hope you and your family are all safe. Toowoomba has been hit so hard, agh. The worst should've peaked, but stay safe.

I'm glad you're safe <3 The footage of the riverwalk was tripping me out, I can't even imagine being up there right now.

When we heard Toowoomba had been hit we were like ............. I MEAN, IT IS ON TOP OF A MOUNTAIN. AND DROUGHT-PRONE. Last place I ever expected this to happen.

the world has gone mental. some of the victorian floods are in towns where a year ago the rivers and lakes had all dried up because of drought.
