"THAT WAS AWESOME," Jin says the second Kame walks off the field. He's been pitching and his fingers are stiff and sore, with blisters just starting to bubble at the tips. Jin's cheeks are flushed with pink. He kept clapping while Kame was trying to pitch and it should have been distracting, but it wasn't. It made Kame feel kind of strong and proud and the balls flew from his fingers like bombs. "YOU'RE AWESOME."
"I'm okay," Kame says shyly, mostly because he wants Jin to say he's awesome again.
"I play soccer," Jin says proudly. "I'm the goalie."
He's probably good, Jin is good at everything, except for all the things he's terrible at. He wouldn't play if he wasn't good at it, though. Not being good at things makes Jin angry. He won't let Kame play the games on his phone anymore because Kame beat all his high scores.
Masahiko walks up to them and stares at Jin. Masahiro is kind of socially retarded, even more than Kame himself. Jin stares back at him and they all end up just standing there, looking at each other blankly.
"You-" Jin starts saying and Kame suddenly remembers the time Jin walked up to a senpai and told him his new haircut made him look like his mother and he hurriedly cuts in, "Masahiko, this is Akanishi-kun. Jin opens his mouth again as if he really wants to finish whatever he was about to say, but then he just looks at Kame and says, "Let's go play," and starts to walk away.
"Don't you want to practice?" Masahiko asks. "The field is free for another hour at least, and coach said we could keep some of the equipment."
He should stay, really. Jin might have thought his pitching was awesome, but Kame had been able to feel that the flick of his fingers was about a half second off and he wasn't getting the rotation he really wanted, and he really should work on that -
but Jin's standing a few feet away with his bike, waiting for Kame to join him. He'll make Kame perch on his handlebars and they'll ride back to Jin's place and listen to music and sing old SMAP songs. Maybe he'll sleep over. Jin's mum really likes him.
"I can't today," he says, and rushes over before Jin gets annoyed and makes him walk home.
He feels Masahiko's eyes on his back as he walks away, and he wants to turn around and try to explain, but he can't. He doesn't know what he's doing either.
(i guess there'll be more or a total rewrite where i try to make this not boring and crap.)
